This is a classic campground ... the smell of a campfire is your constant companion. Flush toilets, showers, a camp host, firewood and an amphitheater with interpretive programs are all here. A 5,100-acre year-round camping park with historic significance dating back hundreds of years. The park includes 9,500 feet of freshwater shoreline on the Columbia River.

From Portland:
Take I-84 eastbound along the Columbia River to Cascade Locks. At Cascade Locks, cross the Columbia River into Washington on the Bridge of the Gods toll bridge. Turn left onto Hwy. 14. Follow Hwy. 14 west for seven miles to Beacon Rock.

Traveling east on I-84 take Hood River exit # 62. At the top of the ramp make a U-turn onto Country Club Rd. Follow until the first stop sign (about two miles). Turn right still Country Club, go to the next stop sign. There is an abandoned grocery store, go to the right of it and take the fork on the left, Reed Rd. Stay on Reed, you will pass orchards and beautiful winding hillsides. When you get to the end you will see a white house with a gravel driveway. Take the gravel driveway and end in the turn around.

From Oregon:
Driving east or west on I-84, take exit #87 and drive north on U.S. 197 across the Columbia River bridge. Continue north about 2.5 miles to SR 14, and turn right, heading east. The park is located at milepost-85.

From Washington:

The Resort is just 85 miles from Portland by way of Hood River. Take interstate 84 east up the Columbia River Gorge to Hood River exit 62, then drive southwest to Dee and follow the signs to Lost Lake. Also, from Portland you can take Mt. Hood Highway 26 to Zig Zag, turn left onto Lolo Pass Road and follow the signs to Lost Lake.

Viento almost always has a spot available when other campgrounds in the area are full. No reservations are accepted; camping is first-come, first-served. On weekends in the summer, rangers provide interpretive programs. A fully-accessible restroom is located here.

Viento is next to a working railroad line and crossing. Visitors and campers can expect to hear train horns throughout the day and night. Interstate 84 also borders the park
