DRIVING THE GORGE ON I-84

Following are the major Mileposts for the Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway as it unfolds through the Columbia River Gorge from Troutdale east to Biggs Junction.

            

 

MILEPOSTS

POINTS OF INTEREST

 

 

Exit 17

Troutdale.  Last chance for gas for the next 20 miles.  Columbia Gorge Premium Outlets, and a number of excellent restaurants and lodging options.

 

Exit 18

Lewis and Clark State Park.  You can also get on the Historic Columbia River Highway at the south end of the park. 

 

Exit 22

Corbett, Oregon.  The town of Corbett is at the junction of Corbett Hill Road and the Historic Columbia River Highway.  Good exit for Crown Point and Vista House.

 

Exit 25

Rooster Rock State Park.  Lewis and Clark camped at a site now inside the park.  (There is also nude bathing here.)

 

Exit 28

Access to the Historic Columbia River Highway and Multnomah Falls and the Lodge.

 

Exit 31

Left side exit to a large parking lot for Multnomah Falls and Multnomah Falls Lodge.  (Slow down quickly as you enter parking lot.  There is often congestion.)

 

Exit 35

Ainsworth State Park and access to the Historic Columbia River Highway. 

 

Exit 40

Bonneville Dam National Historic Site

 

Exit 44

Cascade Locks, Cascade Locks Marine Park,  and the southern terminus of The Bridge of the Gods.

 

Exit 47

Herman Creek Campground

 

Exit 51

Wyeth Campground

Viento State Park

 

 

Mitchell Point

 

Exit 62

First Hood River exit.  This exit south takes you along Cascade Avenue which changes into Oak street through downtown Hood River. 

 

Exit 63

Downtown Hood River

 

Exit 64

Turn north to cross the Hood River Bridge into Washington.  Turn south to take scenic Highway 35 toward Mt. Hood.

 

 

Exit 69

The community of Mosier and the Twin Tunnels trailhead.  Access to historic highway eastbound.

 

 

 

Watch for views of Eighteen Mile Island, named by Lewis and Clark, also known as Chicken Charlie’s Island by locals.

 

 

Exit 73

Memaloose State Park.  This exit only available westbound.  Eastbound, pass milepost 73 then take next exit and return to park westbound.

 

 

Exit 75

The community of Rowena and the Mark Hatfield viewpoint and wildflower preserve.

 

 

Exit 82

Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Wasco County Historical Museum.  First The Dalles exit.

 

 

Exit 85

The Dalles city Center Exit

 

 

Exit 87

The Dalles Dam and The Dalles Bridge across the Columbia River at Junction with Highway 197. 

 

 

Exit 104

Biggs Junction and the Sam Hill Memorial Bridge where State Highway 97 crosses the Columbia River to Maryhill State Park, the Maryhill Museum and the Maryhill Winery.  Use this exit for Heritage Landing State Park on the Deschutes River.
